What to Expect Before, During, and After Your First Appointment

To prepare for your first appointment with Westchester dentist Dr. Brisman, bring with you any relevant medical information we would need. If you’ve had recent dental x-rays taken, please bring those, also. We will need to know what medications you’re taking and what if any, allergies you have.

During your first appointment at Chappaqua Dentistry, we will gather a thorough medical history, and we will listen to your dental health concerns and any problems you are experiencing. We will also listen to what your goals are and how your dental problems are affecting your health and your life.

Your first appointment will be approximately 60 minutes because we need this time to gather a clear picture of your dental health. You will have questions, and we want to take the time to answer those questions and address your concerns thoroughly. The more information you have about upcoming procedures that may be necessary, the more at ease you will feel. Westchester dentist Dr. Brisman prides himself on ensuring his patients are comfortable and relaxed, and confident that they’ve chosen the best dentist in Westchester. Additionally, you may have the opportunity to consult with Dr. Guccione or Dr. Lambrakos, who are integral members of our dental team, and share Dr. Brisman’s commitment to patient comfort and excellence.

After your initial appointment, Dr. Brisman will make a plan for your treatment and will advise you on what happens next. You may receive treatment immediately, or it may be scheduled in the future if it’s not emergent.

If you receive restorative dental treatment or certain cosmetic dental treatment, you may have casts taken after your first appointment. Casts of your jaw or teeth will be needed if you have dental crowns, a dental bridge, porcelain veneers, or dental implants. These can all be made in our in-house On-the-Mark Dental Laboratory to minimize your wait time and ensure your fabrications are perfectly made.

That’s a great question many patients ask. A prosthodontist specializes in treating complex dental and facial matters, including the restoration and replacement of missing or damaged teeth with custom-made devices. They are highly trained in dental implants, dental crowns, dental bridges, dentures, and jaw disorders.

Unlike general dentists with no advanced training in prosthodontics, prosthodontists specialize in repairing natural teeth and replacing missing teeth. Missing and extracted teeth are replaced with artificial teeth (dentures), dental implants, or dental crowns. Specially trained prosthodontists like Dr. Brisman, Dr. Guccione, and Dr. Lambrakos also work with people with head and neck deformities, replacing missing parts of the jaw and face.

You may also want to see a periodontist; periodontics is the branch of dentistry that focuses on the health of your gums and jawbone, which support your teeth. A gum specialist is called a periodontist; this specialty requires extensive training after dental school. Gum health is just as important as teeth health, and untreated gum disease can lead to serious medical complications, including heart disease.

While Dr. Brisman can treat the early stages of gum disease, if you need extensive periodontal treatment, you may be referred to our Scarsdale location, where an expert periodontist is on hand to treat all of your advanced gum disease issues.
